About Me

I've lived in Kew Gardens since 1974. In early 2000, I decided to teach myself web page design and coding by doing an unofficial web site about the Beverly House Apartment Building where I live. As part of the site, I included a grainy picture I found at the local library showing the old Fleischmann Mansion that stood on the property before the building went up. That first picture got me interested in finding more. Inspired by Barry Lewis's first rate book, I eventually decided to concentrate on the story of Kew Gardens. Many of the images you see here were contributed by others (including descendants of the men who founded Kew Gardens and Richmond Hill). I owe a special debt to local Richmond Hill historian, Carl Ballenas, and Richmond Hill Historical society president, Nancy Cataldi.
