This is the present day view of the scene shown in the accompanying 1940 photograph. The trees that now occupy the land in back of Borough Hall allow only a partial view of the rear of the building. Barely visible in the far right distance is the Crossroads Building which stands on the site of the old Kew Gardens Hotel.
