Home of George Duarte

This house on Mowbray Drive sits at the corner formed by the adjoining Mowbray and Kew Gardens Plaza Apartment Houses. The easterly side of the house faces an open lot that used to be the old Maple Grove Long Island Railroad Station. A 1922 - 23 Metropolitan Directory shows that it was the residence of George Duarte and his family. Duarte was the Consul General of Portugal. He also appears to have been something of a photography buff. I believe both this picture and the next one - together with a winter scene of the Kew Gardens Country Club - were taken by him.
