Mowbray Drive
By: DON STRAUB
"During the mayorship of John Lindsay, the city slapped up new signs at each
end of Mowbray Place; the new designation was 82 Drive. It couldn't be a
'Place' because it ran the wrong way on the grid. So it had to be an
Avenue, Road or Drive, the first two having been used on 82 Av (Onslow Pl)
and 82 Rd (Newbold Pl). My father, James "Jim" Straub, visited each family on Mowbray with a
petition to the Mayor. I believe there were 16 homes at that time, and the participation was 100%. The city's compromise was to make it Mowbray Drive, with 82 Drive below. It's too bad Newbold, Onslow, Pembroke and Quentin didn't follow suit."
