Forest & Gardens

The east side of 118th Street just south of Curzon Road is part of the Forest & Gardens Apartments. A century ago, it was the site of a house belonging to John C. Brackenridge, who served as Brooklyn's Public Works Commissioner and as General Manager/Chief Engineer of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Railroad Co. (which eventually became the BMT subway). When his wife, Marcia, died unexpectedly in 1915, Brackenridge donated a stained glass window in her memory to the Church of the Resurrection 2 blocks away. That window is still there today, and one of the figures it depicts is an angel done in Marcia's image and likeness (see "Related Pages" below for pictures).
