118th Street

Directly ahead is the intersection of Metropolitan and 83rd Avenues as seen from 118th Street (then called Church Street) looking north from Curzon Road. We have seen this street before, when it was mostly open fields.
"When first laid out in 1869, [this] was called Market Street, presumably the market referred to [was] Van Wicklen's country grocery store, the only such store at the time. The name was changed [to Church Street] when the Church of the Resurrection . . . was built in 1874. Today it is known as 118th Street."
