Home of Marjorie Gateson
The year was 1914, and a hit Broadway play named, "The Little Cafe", was in serious trouble. One of the lead actresses and her understudy had both taken ill at the same time. Desperate to avoid closing the show, the stage manager canvassed the minor players to see if one of them might have followed the performances closely enough to step in. One of them had, and said she could go on at a moment's notice. She did, and saved the show. Her name was Marjorie Gateson, and she went on to a career on Broadway and in the movies where she played supporting roles opposite stars such as Clark Gable, Jimmy Cagney and Jean Harlow. In the 1960's she played Grace Tyrell in a TV soap opera called The Secret Storm. During the 1920's Marjorie Gateson lived in this house on Beverly Road.
