During the latter 19th Century, the area east of today's Queens Boulevard was farmland. One farm, belonging to Daniel Cooper Foulke, was situated on what would later be the Kew Gardens section of the Grand Central Parkway. Foulke's property included the present day sites of Queens Borough Hall, the former Kew Gardens Inn (now the Crossroads Tower), and the old Crossroads Drug Store (now a bakery at Kew Gardens Road and Queens Boulevard). Just south of Foulke was a farm owned by Timothy Jackson. The Queens County Criminal Court House and New York City House of Detention are on land that used to be part of the Jackson Farm.
