The Interboro Parkway, now called the Jackie Robinson Parkway, was first proposed in 1901. Construction did not begin until 1933, and the work required disinterring bodies in Cypress Hills and Mount Carmel Cemeteries through which the Parkway had to pass.

"[The] INTERBOROUGH PARKWAY, 4.7 miles in length, extends from Kew Gardens through Forest Park to Highland Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue, Brooklyn. At Kew Gardens connections are made for points in Nassau and Suffolk Counties by way of the Grand Central Parkway and for the Bronx and Manhattan by way of the Grand Central Parkway extension and Triborough Bridge."
