Forest Park

"[In 1894] Park Commissioner Squier of Brooklyn . . . purchased the land which is now Forest Park and shut off North Richmond Hill, which is now Forest Hills and Kew Gardens from the 'back-wash' of the city which he knew would spread out to the east. Forest Park protects these two communities now and makes their exclusive restriction to residential sections possible."
