Bernie Land

Located at Metropolitan Avenue and 124th Street, "Bernie Land" became a local legend. No matter what you needed, proprietor Bernie Levine would find it somewhere in the store's impossibly cluttered shelves and aisles. It might be a bit old, but it was exactly what you asked for and the price was always right. Bernie's father, Sam, opened the store in 1926. Bernie and his wife, Claire, continued it until 1983. Both shop and shopkeepers are gone now, and they leave behind a void that no boutique or chain store can ever fill.
